FAQ's - Documents You Need to Email Us

Before your over-the-phone Tax Appointment, you need to send through certain Tax documents, so that our Dedicated Tax Consultants can get you the biggest refund possible.

  • PAYG Summary/Group Certificate
    For all employer/s you have worked for over the financial year.
  • Work Related Expenses
    With receipts where available.
  • Private Health Insurance Annual Statement
    Private Health cover only.
  • End of Financial Year Bank Statement
    A summary of the tax you have paid on your bank interest.
  • Photo ID
    Driver’s License, Proof of Age card or Passport.

For Everyone

Payment Summary

Formerly called ‘Group Certificates’, these are the most important documents we need from you. You will receive a Payment Summary from each employer you have worked for over the past financial. If you have not been given these by your current or previous employer(s) you need to contact them as they may have incorrect contact details for you.

If you still have issues contact the Tax Office on 13 28 61. (We are unable to request Payment Summaries on your behalf).

A List of Work Related Deductions

These are expenses you have incurred while doing your job. Some are allowable and some are not.

Allowable deductions include transport between workplaces, overtime meals, tools, equipment, home office expenses, income protection insurance, uniforms (including laundry & dry cleaning costs).

You can also claim certain self-education expenses like books, seminars, workshops and conferences.

Tax Agent fees are also Tax deductable, so send a copy of last year’s invoice from your Tax Agent with your other documents.

If you are unable to provide a copy of your receipts then provide a list of your expenses instead.

Private Health Insurance Annual Statement

If you have Private Health Cover the government will pay you back some of the fees you paid over the financial year. Your insurer must give you a statement before the end of July. If you have not been given these by you need to contact them as they may have incorrect contact details for you.

End of Financial Year Bank Statement

If you have Private Health Cover the government will pay you back some of the fees you paid over the financial year. Your insurer must give you a statement before the end of July. If you have not been given these by you need to contact them as they may have incorrect contact details for you.

If You Are Self Employed

ABN Number

If you work for yourself or you are a contractor then you usually need to supply an Australian Business Number. Visit the ATO website for details. Please provide this on an invoice or other official document.

Payment Instalments Paid

If this is your business or you are a contractor you need to submit a regular BAS statement. Send us all your Business Activity Statements summaries made during the financial year.

Business Related Expenses

These are expenses that you have incurred in earning the income from your business.

If You Have Investments or Shares

Share Dividend Statements & Imputation Credit Information

If you own shares or other ‘securities’ you will get these from your financial planner, stockbroker or online trading site such as ETrade. If you have sold any shares within the past financial year, you will need to provide a statement. The statement should include the date you bought and sold the shares with the amount you bought and sold them for.

Investment Property Costs

If you own an investment property we’ll need to know how much rent you collected and all costs incurred.

Finance Lease Statements

If you hold a finance lease send us a statement from the finance company.

Income Protection Insurance Costs

If you have this insurance please provide us with your statements.
